Project Summary: The new chancery Building of the Chinese Embassy in the United States is located on a hillside between International Place NW and Van Ness St NW. It is a three-story complex building with a two-story cellar. All levels are above ground at Van Ness St NW. To the south, a large iconic skylight atrium and reception lobby connects the two wings of the office building. A special designed spiral steel staircase with stone treads leads guests to the grand banquet hall on the cellar level. A unique feature of the building’s structure is that the concrete slab of the walls and roof are integrated into the lateral force resisting system.
