Project Summary: The project site is located within M1-1 manufacture district Brooklyn, along 61st Street between 7th Ave and 8th Avenue. The new building is a mixed-use concrete structure that consists of a six-story community facility to the east and a five-story hotel to the west on a 23,470 square feet lot. It has two levels of underground parking to provide valet parking for busy community. The site excavation was successfully supported by underpinning, subgrade bracing and soldier piles. The main structural design challenges were structural transfer at various locations, due to transfer stairs, and a mismatched column grid between the underground parking and above-ground levels. Sleek and stylish steel supported glass trellis at the hotel entrance enhances the image of Insignia Hotel: neat, cleaning and economical.
